Koushik Chakraborty is a singer, songwriter and an independent filmmaker who was born in a middle class family. His artistic roots were well fertilized, being born to parents like Shri Kalidas Chakraborty and Smt. Jolly Chakraborty. His musical learning started at the tender age of 8 when his father became his first Guru to shape his mental keel. At that age young Koushik made a prominent stage appearance on the auspicious occasion of Mahalaya. Later he took formal training in'Bengali Folk Music'from Shri Chandrasekhar Roy.
Completing his schooling from Ballygunge Government High School, he joined Asutosh College as a student of Political science. His college days played a pivotal role in his life as he formed his own band “Prithibi” with his college mates in 2001. The band received a new pace when they participated and stood Runner up In 'Band E Mataram' a bangla band reality show in 2005. Today “Prithibi” is the most popular and one of the best bangla bands In India.
Koushik has sung for many Bengali movies and television programmes. He has also worked as lyricist, composer and music arranger for others artists. He never wanted his love for music to remain confined under one roof. To explore his creative soul, He founded Nagar Sankirtan with his students. Koushik's brainchild, Nagar Sankirtan, is a project that focuses on Bangla gaan irrespective of its genre. It is basically a bangla gaan revival project that makes tribute music videos, recorded and shot by Koushik himself. Nagar Sankirtan renders and recreates hits of the past which were once famous but has gradually faded off with time. The entire project features Koushik's students. Later he started performing the songs with his students who plays instruments in Nagar Sankirtan. This collaboration later came to be known as Koushik o Nagar Sankirtan.
Recently Koushik has come out with a unique venture named “Agunpakhir Goppo” which is a rocumentary with his band Prithibi.Get in Touch
